Choosing a Stay as a Couple
Couples searching for a room in Kodaikanal usually weigh the same few things: how private the stay feels, what you see from the room, and how far you are from the lake and restaurants. Which area suits a couple
Near the lake. JK Residency is listed near Kodaikanal Lake and about 990 m from the city centre. If you want to walk to the lake in the evening and keep taxi use low, this is the closest option on this page.
Naidupuram and Rifle Range Road. The Lake House, Orchard Three Bedroom Villa and Ramesh Cottage are in this area, roughly 2.5 to 3 km from the lake. It is quieter and less busy than the lake road, and you will usually drive or take a cab for sightseeing. Orchard Villa lists a mountain and garden view, a terrace and a balcony.
Hotel, homestay or villa
- Hotel-style stay. JK Residency has a 24-hour front desk, which helps with late arrivals after the drive up the ghat road.
- Cottage. Ramesh Cottage is the lowest-priced stay here and lists home-cooked food.
- Resort-style. The Lake House has an in-house restaurant and a campfire area, so you can eat and spend the evening without going out.
- Private villa. Orchard is a 3 BHK booked as a private stay. It costs more, and you get the entire property with a kitchen.
What to check before booking
- Ask for photos or a video of the room you will actually get, and which direction its window faces.
- Ask how far the parking is from the room and whether the last stretch of road is steep.
- Ask if breakfast is included and what the extra bed or extra person charge is.
- Ask about decorations, a cake or a private dinner for a honeymoon, and get the price before you arrive.
- Ask about hot water and heating in the evening, since nights are cold.
When to go
April to June and December are peak months with the highest rates. July to September is the monsoon season, with mist and the lowest rates. If you want fewer crowds, September and October are quieter. Always confirm the rate for your exact dates with the owner.
