June is the transition month. The flower show crowds have left, the monsoon is building, and Kodaikanal looks completely different from peak-season photos — cooler, much quieter, green in a way that only happens with rain.

Whether it's worth visiting in June depends entirely on what you're after.

What the weather looks like

Temperature stays between 12°C and 20°C all month — jacket weather even in the afternoon. Nights drop to 8–10°C, so pack a layer. Early June is mostly dry with cool evenings. Rain starts mid-June, not the sustained downpour of July, but sudden showers that arrive and clear within an hour.

What's open

Everything you can visit in May is still accessible in early June: the lake, Bryant Park, Silver Cascade, all the main viewpoints. By mid-June when rain picks up, some viewpoint side roads get muddy and auto drivers charge more or won't go.

What becomes difficult

Coaker's Walk gets slippery when wet — go, but wear non-slip shoes. Dolphin's Nose and Pillar Rocks can be cloud-covered for hours after rain; go before 8 AM for the best chance of a clear view. Berijam Lake requires a Forest Department permit and its road can close after heavy overnight rain — call ahead before making that trip.

Trekking the wilder paths isn't advisable without a local guide once the June rain starts.

Hotels and prices

Off-season pricing starts in June. Rooms that cost ₹4,000–5,000 in May drop to ₹1,800–2,500. Lakeside properties that are fully booked in summer have open rooms. Most hotels stay open year-round.

If your dates are flexible, early June (1st–10th) is the sweet spot: post-peak quiet and pre-monsoon weather. You get the cool air, emptier attractions, and better rates without the rain risk.

Getting there

The ghat road from Kodai Road station to Kodaikanal is fine all through June. If you're driving, start the climb before 3 PM — late-afternoon mist reduces visibility on the upper hairpin bends.
